Air transport

POLAND

 Warsaw (Fryderyk Chopin airport) has connections with all other airports, i.e. with:
Bydgoszcz (Ignacy Paderewski airport);
Gdansk (Lech Wałęsa airport);
Katowice – Pyrzowice airport;
Cracow – Balice (Jan Paweł II airport);
Łódź – Lublinek (Władysław Reymont airport);
Poznań – Ławica (Henryk Wieniawski airport);
- Rzeszów – Jasionka airport;
Szczecin – Goleniów (NSZZ Solidarność airport);
Szczytno – Szymany airport;

AIR CONNECTIONS BETWEEN POLAND AND UKRAINE
As of today the Warsaw airport is the only Polish airport having connections with Kiev, Lviv and Odessa. Other Ukrainian airports do not have connections with Poland.


SPECIAL SOLUTIONS FOR THE PERIOD OF EURO 2012
A method to solve the problem of limited air transport connections between Poland and Ukraine is construction of TPT – Temporary Passenger Terminals. TTP will be furnished with independent power sources, first aid points, UPS and air conditioning. Each terminal will consist of 10 ticket clearance points, 16 boarding entrances and two luggage conveyors. Security of each TTP will be ensured by CCTV cameras, 6 X-ray machines and metal detector gates.

Railway transport

POLAND
Planned investments concern mainly:
- Modernization of railway lines comprising parts of international connections;
- Modernization of lines connecting main railway nods;

The map below presents plans for modernization of railway lines with specification of the task implementation timeframes:

 

green colour – construction of new lines;
black colour – modernization by 2006;
red colour – modernization in the years 2007 – 2013;
blue colour – modernization in the years 2014 – 2020;
purple colour – modernization after 2020.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


The modernization will bring about the following effects::
- improvement of the transport accessibility;
- increase of the speed;
- improvement of safety;
- enhancement of throughput;
- improvement in the area of environment protection.


UKRAINE
Planned investments concern mainly:
- electrification of the railways on national scale;
- introduction of fast passenger trains;
- purchase of new rolling stock for passenger trains

As of today the railways connections between Kiev and Lviv, Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk are fully electrified and double-track.

In the years 2002 – 2005 general refurbishments were made at the following stations:
- Kiev Station;
- Lviv Station;
- Donetsk Station;
- Dnipropertovsk Station.

Development plans for cities

WARSAW
- Construction of the second terminal at the Fryderyk Chopin airport (in progress, completion planned for 2007);
- Construction of railway connection between the airport and the city center (completion planned for 2008);
- Completion of the construction of the first line of the underground connecting the city North to the South (planned for 2008);
- Construction of the second line of the underground connecting the city West to the East, with a station at the National Stadium (completion scheduled for 2012);

WROCŁAW
- Expansion of the first terminal (readiness to service 2 million passengers annually) and construction of the second terminal (readiness to service 900 thousand passengers annually) – completion planned by 2012;
- Two railways stations will be allocated to support the needs of UEFA EURO 2012: the Main Station and Nadodrze Station. Most probably Świebodzki Station will be also made available.

KIEV
- Expansion of the international airport Boryspol – eventually (by 2012) 4 terminals will be in operation. Two of them will service international flights, one – domestic ones and one will be allocated to VIPs;
- players, VIPs and UEFA members will have the opportunity to use a separate access road to Kharkiv motorway;
- it will be possible to get to the Olympic Stadium e.g. by underground.

LVIV
- construction of a new terminal (completion planned by 2010);
- introduction of international connections with North America.

DNIPROPETROVSK
- renovation of the airport;
- expansion of the railways station at the airport terminal (in progress, completion planned by 2012).

ODESSA
- construction of a new terminal servicing a thousand passengers per hour (commencement planned for 2008; completion planned by 2010).
