Infrastructure
During preparations for hosting of EURO 2012 championships, Poland and Ukraine will introduce several improvements in the scope of domestic and international transport. Please find below information presenting main lines of development:
Stadiums
After submission of the documentation in Nyon under Phase II of the project, we are presenting the following current information about the stadiums in Poland and Ukraine. The data presented earlier came from Poland-Ukraine Bid submitted in 2005 under Phase I of the UEFA EURO 2012 tender.
Geography
The territories of Poland and Ukraine have the joint area of 916,385 km², inhabited by 86 million people.
Government
Poland and Ukraine’s bid to host the UEFA EURO 2012 has the full and unconditional support of all the relevant National and Local authorities. The Presidents, Prime Ministers and Ministers of Sport, both in writing in the form of letters of guarantee and verbally during multiple bilateral meetings, have expressed their great enthusiasm for the opportunity to host this prestigious event.
Economy
It is forecast that in the coming years Polish economy will continue to grow at a fast rate. GDP growth in the entire 2005 is forecast at 3.2 – 3.4%, and in 2006 - at 4.3%. Due to with "Orange revolution" in Ukraine in the winter 2004/2005, GDP across 2005 has been at the level of 4.3%. Analysts of the Economist Intelligence Unit forecast that in 2005 Ukraine will reach GDP growth of 5%.
Culture
The Polish state is over 1,000 years old. In the XVIth century, under the Jagiellonian dynasty, Poland was one of the richest and most powerful states on the continent. Ukraine was the center of the first Slavic state, Kievan Rus, which during the 10th and 11th centuries was the largest and most powerful state in Europe.
Border
The Polish-Ukrainian border is an administrative notion, which unites to a greater extent than divides. Both nations have similar history, language and traditions. Polish-Ukrainian border can be crossed in the following places: Dołhobyczów, Dorohusk, Hrebenne, Krościenko, Medyka, Małhowice, Młyny, Zosin.
Football
Poland and Ukraine have seen many successes on the European football fields. The Polish team was a tough contender in World Cup Final Tournaments where it participated 6 times and reached the semi-finals and bronze in 1974 and 1982. In Ukraine, Dynamo Kiev was the main supplier of the successful teams of the USSR that reached the UEFA EURO finals in 1960 (winner), 1964, 1972 and 1988 and the semi-finals in 1968.
UEFA Evaluation
In November 2005 UEFA published a report evaluating candidate countries for hosting of EURO 2012 after Phase I of the bidding. The report shows that our bid has many strengths but there is also much to do.
