UEFA: The decision is postponed till April 2007

Today the UEFA Executive Committee made a decision to postpone election of the host association for the European Football Championship 2012 till April 2007.

Let us be reminded that at first the Executive Committee planned to elect the winner of the tender on the 8th of December during its following meeting. However, taking into consideration several shortcomings in the preparation for the continental forum 2004 in Portugal, and several contradictions in the corresponding documentation design, found before the competition start in Austria and Switzerland in two years, it was decided to give the candidates more time for preparation. This information was given to the FFU Press Office by President of the National Football Federation, Member of the UEFA Executive committee, Grygoriy Surkis, who at the moment is taking part in the meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee, which is being held in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

- The UEFA Executive Committee has decided not to rush with the election of the host association of EURO 2012, and to give the candidates more time  for improving the documentation, harmonize corresponding contracts with cities, where the hosting of the competition is planned, - FFU President underlined. – That is why it was decided to take a time out. In my opinion, all three candidates are in equal conditions. Moreover, we have got four additional months for improving our joint Bid with Poland and not to lose this historical chance to win the tender for the right to host the European Football Championship EURO 2012.
