EURO 2012: meeting with UEFA
"Generation 2012" Tournament was a success. Gdańsk team won the match played in Kiev against Lviv 1:0. The final match was held on Saturday, 13th August, at the Bannnikov Stadium. Warsaw footballers scored third.
The Gdańsk players scored the goal at the beginning of the second half, and they managed to maintain the score until the end of the match, despite powerful support to the Lviv team from their fans. Most of the Ukrainian teams came to support their colleagues and they did not stop to encourage guys from Lviv until the final whistle.
Tournament medallists:
1st place – Gdańsk,
2nd place – Lviv,
3rd place – Warsaw
Other places in the tournament were divided among the teams in the following way:
4th place – Krakow,
5th place – Wrocław,
6th place – Chorzów,
7th place – Poznań,
8th place – Donetsk,
9th place – Dnipropetrovsk,
10th place – Kiev Region,
11th place – Kiev,
12th place – Odessa.
The official rewarding and closing ceremonies of "Generation 2012" took place immediately after the end of the final match. Some of the participants of the ceremony included: Vitaliy Zhuravsky, acting as the city Deputy Mayor, Ivan Fedorenko, the Director of the Executive Directorate EURO 2012, Adam Olkowicz, the Deputy Director of the Executive Committee EURO 2012 in Poland, and Andrzej Szarmahc, a Polish football player and Olympic Champion.
Tournament participants were young footballers, born in the years 1992-1993. Due to their age they might find way into the main staff of their respective national teams in 2012. The competition aimed at promotion of the Poland-Ukraine joint bid to host EURO 2012.
