The "Generation 2012" tournament started

Today the "Generation 2012" tournament started in Kiev. Young players born in the years 1992-1993 take part in the tournament. Because of their age they might become a part of the national teams in 2012. The tournament aims at the promotion of the joint Poland-Ukraine bid in the UEFA tender for hosting EURO 2012.

The opening match at the Victor Bannikov stadium saw Poznań team play against Dniepropietrovsk. Poznań team won 2:0. The next match between Warsaw and Poznań finished with Warsaw team winning 1:0 (0:0).

The official opening ceremony was hosted by the Ukraine’s Minister for Family, Youth and Sport Yuri Pavlenko. The ceremony was also attended by representatives of the Polish Bid Staff - Piotr Gawron and Adam Olkowicz as well as Fedorenko, the head of the Ukrainian Committee for EURO 2012.

12 teams from Ukraine and Poland represent those cities that were placed in the joint Poland-Ukraine bid to host the matches of the final round of the European Football Championships 2012. For that reason the tournament will see participation of players from Chorzów, Gdańsk, Krakow, Poznań, Warsaw, Wrocław, as well as Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Odessa, Kiev, Kiev Oblast and Lviv. Young players are playing in the colours of Poland-Ukraine bid to host EURO 2012. The matches will be held on three stadia in Kiev – the V. Bannikov stadium, "Olypic" AWF stadium in Kiev.

In sub-groups the players will compete in the circular system – 2 matches daily. Young players plays two halves 25 each with a break not longer than 10 minutes. The teams that win the First and the Second place in the group matches, will become the semi-final pairs. The finals are scheduled for 12th August at Victor Bannikov Stadium.
