EURO 2012: meeting with UEFA
PLN 4 billion. That much Gdańsk needs to prepare for EURO 2012 and deploy necessary investments – Gdańsk authorities calculated.
The Ministry for Regional Development already received investment plans from the remaining cities, for the total amount of PLN 26.5 billion.
- In early July the Ministry for Regional Development will present the investment strategy and a list of projects for the benefit of EURO 2012. The list is to contain the projects whose deployment is necessary for hosting of the final tournament – recently said Jerzy Kwieciński, the deputy minister for regional development.
Gdańsk authorities are hoping that the EU and government support will finance at least 70 percent of the expenditure related to hosting of the tournament.
- Four billion is a gigantic amount for the city budget. We are able to finance on our own 15 percent of the expenses. We can obtain funding for another 15 percent from private partners. We would like to be given the rest – said Andrzej Bojanowski, the city treasurer.
Works are underway in Gdańsk city office on modification of the Multi-Annual Investment Plan for the years 2008-2012.
- Investments related to EURO 2012 have become top priority - explained Marcin Szpak, deputy president of Gdańsk for economic affairs. – We must accelerate by year completion of Sucharski Route, Słowackiego Street, and of the entire transport connection arrangement supporting traffic around the stadium.
