EURO 2012: meeting with UEFA
The President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko is going to participate in tomorrow’s presentation of Poland-Ukraine bid for the right to host EURO 2012. The President of Poland, Lech Kaczyński, also confirmed his presence in Cardiff.
The visit of the Ukrainian President will take place despite the unstable political situation in Kiev. Ivan Fedorenko, the head of the Executive Directorate of FFU for EURO 2012 stressed that disputes among politicians will not affect the fate of Poland-Ukraine bid. He reminded that all political forces, both the opposition and the ruling coalition ones, signed an appeal to UEFA concerning EURO 2012. This means that regardless of who is in the power in the future, hosting of the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine will be supported. The presidents, prime ministers and parliament speakers of both states also signed the appeal to UEFA.
The decision on selection of the host of EURO 2012 will be made already the day after tomorrow in the Welsh city of Cardiff. Twelve representatives of the UEFA Executive Committee will make the choice. Beside Poland and Ukraine other bidders for the right to host the championships are: Italy and the joint bid of Hungary-Croatia.
