Hungary: Platini rejects Italy as Euro 2012 host

In an interview for Sport-Informations-Dienst magazine, the UEFA President Michel Platini stated he could not imagine Italy receiving the right to organize Euro 2012.

Platini said he believed that the recent match-fixing scandal, the murder of a police officer in Catania and fan rampages make Italy's competence to host such an event doubtful.

Platini has been the first UEFA president to speak about which bid the UEFA thinks has a chance of winning. His predecessor, Lennart Johansson, never commented on the chances for winning of any of the candidate countries.
