Ukrainians about preparations for EURO 2012

On Friday, January the 19th, in the seat of the FFU in Kiev, a press conference was held on the final stage of Ukraine’s preparations for the UEFA tender for the right to host EURO 2012.

According to the UEFA requirements, by 15th February 2007 candidate countries have to submit the agreements with host-association, host cities, stadiums and airports and any additional information, which can strengthen and improve the Bid Dossier they submit. The aforementioned agreements cover such issues as events’ management for fans, legal issues, safety and security, marketing rights, technical requirements for stadiums and administrative buildings as well as protocol events etc.

Conference participants assured that as of today Ukraine signed all the necessary agreements except the agreement with the "Shakhtar" stadium in Donetsk. Problems arise also around the preparation of the second back up host city, Kharkiv, which has not submitted all required agreements. However, the Director of the Executive Directorate FFU EURO 2012 Ivan Fedorenko Iwan Fedorenko, assured that he pointed the attention of the city authorities to this fact and asked them to submit the missing documentation as soon as possible.

On Friday Ivan Fedorenko held a meeting with Leonid Chernovetskyi, the mayor of Kyiv. They talked about the signing of the agreement between UEFA and Kyiv as a host-city. Mr. Fedrenko stated that by signing this agreement the capital of Ukraine fulfilled all the requirements of UEFA for airports, stadiums, hotels, etc.

Recently the UEFA made additional demands concerning accommodation, medical care for fans, tourist services and the mobility concept. The latter issue concerns mainly the system of transport connections among main facilities objects of the Championships: stadiums, fan- and VIP-zones, airports, bus and railway stations, hospitals and accommodation facilities.

Ukraine presented a vision of the transport connections development, their admittance ability and passenger capacity for 2012, including the construction plan of new terminals, submitted by the "Boryspil" and "Zhulyany" airports. The Ministry of Health of Ukraine developed a detailed concept for medical care and presented a list of hospitals, including their full description, to provide medical assistance to participants of such a mass event.

In December 2006 the Ukrainian campaign of support for EURO 2012 called "A step into the future" was launched. Its main aim is to involve pupils and youth into popularisation and support of the idea to host this event.

The conference organizers reminded that working groups of Ukraine and Poland elaborated presentation materials for all host-cities, and prepared answers to certain legal questions. A draft law "About organization and hosting of the final tournaments of the European Football Championship of 2012 in Ukraine and Poland" was prepared along with a commentary of the Polish legislation.

All participants of the Kyiv conference assured that Poland and Ukraine were working in accordance with the schedule and would be prepared on time for hosting of the European Football Championships 2012.

Conference participants included: the Deputy Minister of Ukraine for Family, Youth and Sports Vladyslav Mylenky, Director of the Executive Directorate FFU EURO 2012 Ivan Fedorenko, Director of the "Stairsfor" agency Myhailo Ilko, Head of the Department of the Physical Education and Sports Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Valentyna Yermolova, Editor of the Literature Department of the Ukrainian children’s magazine "Barvinok" Svitlana Prudnyk, Director of  the program "Indigo" of the National Telecompany of Ukraine Maryna Lytvynenko and mass media representatives.
