EURO 2012: meeting with UEFA
On 3rd February, during the official ceremony of handing of 2006 Stanley Prizes (national boxing prizes awarded in Poland and named after a famous American boxer of Polish origin, Stanisław Kiecel (Stanley Ketchel)) a show football match will be held between boxers and representatives of the boxing community on the one hand and a representation of Polish Artists on the other.
The guiding idea behind this year’s Stanley Prizes is, amongst others, expression of support of martial arts communities for Polish aspirations to host EURO 2012 finals in Poland and Ukraine.
During this year’s ceremony, which is to be held at Torwar arena in Warsaw, prizes will be awarded in 14 categories, including: the Fight of the Year 2006 (in Poland), the Fight of the Year 2006 (worldwide), the Boxer of the year, the Referee of the Year, the Coach of the Year, the Warrior of the Year, The Fair-Play Contestant of the Year, the Debut of the Year, the Discovery of the Year.
The objective of Stanley Prizes is promotion of sport, in particular of boxing and martial arts. Stanley Statuettes and Diplomas are awarded in several categories to outstanding boxers, sportsmen, journalists, and activists. The purpose is to honour their achievements and efforts, which aim at development of boxing and martial arts, and in a broader perspective – of sport in Poland.
The ceremony’s agenda includes also: breaking of the Record in fight against a punching bag, a performance by footballers from Kosecki school, a show of children martial arts BKKK, two show fights and a spectacle directed by Janusz Józefowicz, with participation of Buffo Theatre actors.
The match between boxers and Polish artists is to be held under the patronage of the Executive Committee for EURO 2012 Bid.
