EURO 2012: meeting with UEFA
On 25th August Telekomunikacja Polska initiated a campaign of collecting signatures in support of hosting the finals of the European Football Championships EURO 2012 in Poland and Ukraine. The campaign was launched in Gdańsk, where almost 2000 signatures were collected in two days in the Old Town of Gdańsk. At following weekends subsequent cities collected even more signatures: Krakow - 3088, Wrocław - 4165, Chorzów - 2245, Poznań - 3115. Approx. 1000 signatures were collected on a single day in Warsaw.
However, Poles and Ukrainians should be keen on collecting a larger number of signatures to show to UEFA the biggest support for EURO 2012. In this connection the campaign of collecting signatures will be continued on the website e2012.org until as late as 17th April so that on 18th April – the date of the announcement of the UEFA competition winner – just before the decisive moment for Poland and Ukraine, we could show the greatest possible support of the citizens and fans from all over Europe for hosting of EURO 2012 in our countries.
As of today citizens of Germany, the Czech Republic, Russia, Belarus, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada, among others, have supported the Poland/Ukraine bid through signatures.
On 12th September, during the inspection paid by the UEFA delegation, TP handed an official certificate with the number of collected signatures to the UEFA delegates in the Old Market Square in Poznań. By the time of handing of the certificate by Telekomunikacja Polska, 14,425 signatures expressing Poles’ support for EURO 2012 had been collected.

“Goalposts of support” are an element in the social campaign promoting Poland/Ukraine bid for the right to host the European Football Championships UEFA EURO 2012. They were put up in the streets of Gdańsk, Poznań and Wrocław on Friday, 6th October and a day later in Warsaw. The goalposts let guests and residents of the cities to vote in support of Polish bid by passing through them.
In 5 days as many as 501,639 persons supported the Poland/Ukraine bid for the right to host EURO 2012 “with their legs”. “Goalposts” located in four cities on 11th October indicated such result jointly.
Until 13th October “the goalposts of support” were located in the following places:
Gdansk – Długi Targ Street, next to the Neptune fountain,
Poznan – Półwiejska Street, lading to the shopping mall Stary Browar,
Warsaw – next to Rotunda PKO BP at the Dmowski Roundabout,
Wroclaw – the Marketplace at the Oławska Street exit.
“Chain of support” is an attempt at beating the Guinness world record for world’s longest football scarf.
On Saturday, 14th October 2006, in Nowy Świat Street in Warsaw Poles managed to tie the “chain of support” composed of 8 thousand scarves knitted to celebrate the submission of Poland/Ukraine bid for the right to host the European Football Championships UEFA EURO 2012.
Unfortunately they failed to beat the Guinness world record of 12.5 thousand scarves, but in the opinion of the organizers the event was a success anyway.
