For the second time the tournament’s organizer was the Ukrainian Football Federation, which will hold this year’s matches jointly with partners from Poland. Young players born in the years 1992-93 took part in the tournament. Because of their age they could participate in their national teams in 2012.
12 teams from Ukraine and Poland was presented by those cities which were placed in the joint Poland-Ukraine bid to host the matches of the final round of the European Football Championships 2012. For that reason the tournament saw participation of players from Chorzów, Gdańsk, Krakow, Poznań, Warsaw, Wrocław, as well as Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Odessa, Kiev, Kiev Oblast and Lviv.
In sub-groups the players compete in the circular system – 2 matches daily. Each match is composed of two halves 25 each with a break not longer than 10 minutes. The teams that win the First and the Second place in the group matches, become the semi-final pairs. The finals are scheduled for 12th August at Victor Bannikov NTK FFU Stadium.
The tournament aims at the promotion of the joint Poland-Ukraine bid in the UEFA competition for hosting EURO 2012. "Generation 2012" is a major element in the preparations for the final stage of this bidding.
