EURO 2012: meeting with UEFA
Poland and Ukraine as well as Hungary with Croatia have already submitted to the European Football Union the documentation for the second phase of bidding to host the finals of European championships in 2012.
The documents will be analyzed by UEFA experts. Another hectic month in the procedure of selecting the host of EURO 2012 will be September. This is when the candidate countries will be visited by UEFA delegations, which will make an initial assessment of the promises made. At that time there will be intensive advertising campaign in Poland, with the use - among other things – of the mass media.
The final decision will be made on 8th December.
The voting will be made in maximum two rounds. For the voting to be valid, there must be a quorum in the meeting room, i.e. at least eight Committee members, excluding the president and his deputy without the right to vote. In the first round each member has one vote and if any candidate has absolute majority, than it becomes the winner and the second round is not required.
If there is no absolute majority, the candidate with the fewest votes will be rejected and two bids will stand for further voting. But than there is also another scenario possible: in the first round one candidate enjoys the greatest support and two others have the same number of votes. Then there will be an additional voting between the two, where one is rejected and the other one goes for the second round. In case of another draw, the President of the Executive Committee decides.
If in the first round all three candidates receive the same number of votes, than the president decides which one is to be rejected. In the second round the candidate enjoying greater support of the voting wins.
One day before, i.e. on 7th December, all three candidates will make the final presentations in front of the members of the UEFA Executive Committee. The choice well be made by:
