Road to EURO

UEFA requirements

Requirements for candidate countries to host UEFA EURO 2012 in the phase I of the bidding were prepared as detailed questions. The candidates had to describe issues related to the organization of the championships, ensuring security, as well as to prove support of the central and local government authorities.

Selection procedure

After announcement of UEFA decision on selection of three final bids for hosting EURO 2012, in Poland and Ukraine works began on the second phase of the bidding. It is our task to prepare a formal application meeting UEFA requirements.

Voting procedure

Poland and Ukraine as well as Hungary with Croatia have already submitted to the European Football Union the documentation for the second phase of bidding to host the finals of European championships in 2012. What is next?

History of the Championship

The idea behind tournaments was first announced in 1927 at a congress of the International Football Federation (FIFA), by the General Secretary of the French Football Federation Henri Delaunay. However, the idea could not yet be brought to existence at that time. It was successfully realised in 1960, when the tournament was given a name in memory of the author of the project – namely, the Europe Nations Cup – or Henri Delaunay Cup.

EURO 2004 Portugal

UEFA EURO 2004™ in Portugal was definitely a ravishing and thrilling sport event. Dramatic matches at a very high level of skills attracted crowds of fans and the unexpected victory of Greece proved that  a team is more than just a collection of individual players.

Under-19 Poland 2006

Poland hosts the 2006 UEFA European Under-19 Championship. Uefa.com magazine assesses the eight competing nations.

EURO 2008 Austria-Switzerland

The 13th European Football Championships will be started with the match of Swiss Basle on 7th June 2008. After EURO 2000, played on fields in Netherlands and Belgium, this will be the second, European football final organised by two countries together. This is the most important sport event in the history of Austria and Switzerland.
