Blatter's visit gives boost to Poland and Ukraine EURO Bid The joint Bid by Poland and Ukraine to host the UEFA EURO 2012 was given a big boost following Monday's visit by FIFA President Sepp Blatter to Warsaw, to meet with the Polish President Lech Kaczynski. President of the Football Federation of Ukraine and Member of the UEFA Executive Committee Grygoriy Surkis participated in the meeting on behalf of UEFA President Michel Platini. Mr. Platini was planning to travel to Warsaw personally but urgent businesses obliged him to stay in Nyon. Consequently, the newly elected Head of UEFA informed FIFA President Joseph Blatter that Mr. Surkis would represent his interests in Poland. As a result of the meeting the decision of Polish Minister of Sport Tomasz Lipiec regarding the forced resignation of the Polish Football Association Executive Committee headed by Michal Listkiewicz was amended and the decision to return the legitimate authority to the PFA Executive Committee was made. "Conflict in Polish football from today has to be considered in the past tense," - Mr. Surkis stated at a press conference in Kiev. "Having put the situation in Polish football back on track, Poland and Ukraine have taken another step towards victory in our bid to host the European Football Championships in 2012." Today President Yushchenko of Ukraine will be visiting Warsaw for meetings with President Kaczynski. One of the questions to be discussed will be hosting the UEFA EURO 2012 and the impact it can make on the football future of the two countries. Poland and Ukraine are bidding against the bid from Italy and the joint bid from Hungary and Croatia to host the UEFA EURO 2012.
